A Childhood Dream
Since I was a child I’ve always wanted to study in a culinary school. Knowing that Switzerland is the best place to study Culinary Arts, I was intrigued to go there. I’m glad my parents supported me in every way and my dad always wanted me to study abroad in order to broaden my skills, begin to have faith in me and challenge my limits.
The Big Decision
I have never travelled outside of my country by myself, but I took the big decision and I applied at B.H.M.S. and in January 2017, I started my study journey in Switzerland. I was 17 year’s old when I arrived at B.H.M.S. in Lucerne city, and from the very first moment I felt very comfortable because everyone there was super nice to me.
"Personal Limitations
Before I decide where to apply, I thought that only in Malaysia people would respect my religious beliefs, and studying Culinary Arts in Switzerland, was totally beyond my boundaries, so I had doubts. But then I wanted to challenge myself and my limits.
At my first kitchen-class, for the Diploma in Culinary Arts, I informed the chefs that I have limits because of my religion and that I couldn’t take pork and alcohol since I’m a Muslim. To my surprise they were really understanding, and they had massive respect towards me and my religious beliefs!
During the first year of studies, I was given the opportunity to push my creativity and learned not to be afraid. I also tried new recipes and learned from my mistakes in order to move forward. My culinary journey so far is so amazing since I always learn so many new and exciting things during my study time."
The Dream Goes On
Regarding the second year of studies for the Higher Diploma in Culinary Arts, I can confirm that everything is still amazing and I’ve never felt so happy and relieved as I feel now.
I love the fact that I have the opportunity to deal every day with people from all over the world, learn about different cultures, and experience a multicultural environment while gaining international friends!
What I will always remember from my study journey at the B.H.M.S. Culinary Academy is the valuable skill-set I receive during the vocational and practical courses, which helps me stand on my own feet, and explore the real world of culinary!
For these and many other reasons, I will really miss my study time when I'll graduate from B.H.M.S.!
